This virtual book club is designed for readers who enjoy meaningful discussions and discovering new books in a welcoming community. Each month, members will read one selected book at their own pace, and we'll meet once a month via Zoom to discuss themes, characters, ideas, and our overall reading experience. No prior literary expertise is needed—just curiosity and a love for books.
Why Join A Virtual Book Club?
- Flexibility. You can join from the comfort of your own home, and we will always find times that are convenient for the majority of the group.
- Wisdom. Listening, and analyzing, different perspectives will always enrich our ways of thinking. It's a win-win for everyone!
- Reflection. Open dialogue about literature, life, philosophies, etc., can help promote reflection and introspection.
- Consistency. A book club entails commitment, which gives you a helpful push to finish books on time instead of leaving them half-read.
- Expansion. We might read books you normally wouldn't pick up, allowing you to broaden your tastes and learn about different genres.
What's The Dynamic Like?
- I'll add your phone number to the Whatsapp group chat.
- Everyone will send 1 or 2 book options for us to vote on before a specified deadline. I will send a poll!
- Once the book is selected, we will all vote for the book we will read that month.
- I will share a few dates for our virtual meeting. Everyone must vote!
- We will meet once a month to discuss the book in Spanish or English, depends on the crowd and how many folks join. You can read the book in any language you desire, of course.
- I will share a Zoom link via the group chat the day of our Club meets, and we will join at the specified time (EST).
- I will also share a PDF with questions to ensure we have a thought-provoking conversation. You can send me your questions up until 2 days before the meeting so I can add it to the PDF.
- Once we're in the meeting, it's all hands on deck! Grab your drink of choice (I'll have a martini or glass of wine), turn on the camera, and lets have fun <3 Remember to be respectul of everyone in the call and be mindful with your microphone/audio.
A few FYIs:
- Depending on the month, there might be different themes/dynamics involed in the book club (i.e. if it's October, we might choose a spooky read. If it's Latin American Heritage Month, we might read books by Latin authors.)
- I will try to keep the book club meetings to 20 people max. If there are more people, I will break up the groups in separate calls/chats. It's hard to have meetings with too many people.
- Again, this BC will mostly be in English or Spanish.
- I will be moderating most of the call to allow everyone to have a tranquil and joyful experience. Think of this as a clasroom where you raise your hand to talk. That way, we don't talk over each other and can listen to everyone in the call.
- Lastly, please be respectful of everyone in the call. Miss Bukowski reserves the right to remove members from the group chat and/or the meetings if anyone acts unkindly towards someone else or says anything disrespectul/offensive.
